10 Benefits of Being a Cat Owner

Who doesn’t love cats? They are cute, fluffy, loving, friendly and independent. Mostly, every cat has a personality of its own. But did you know that owning a cat is scientifically proven to be beneficial? It has been proved that watching cat videos reduces your stress and boosts up your energy. Many studies have shown that cat owners are way smarter and knowledgeable than dog owners.

Here, on International Cat day, we are listing some of the benefits of a being a cat owner and shared very little-known facts about cats.

1. Lowers the risks of heart disease

Cats require much less care and attention than a dog does. They help in reducing anxiety and stress, which is directly linked to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It reduces the risk of stroke. Scientists have researched and found out that the cat owners have a little less risk of dying than dog owners. Owning a cat provides a positive and soothing effect.


2. Fewer allergies (for your kids)

If you do not own a pet, it is time for you to get one, at least for the sake of your child’s health because researchers have found that infants who were exposed to cats were less likely to develop an allergy. It can be an allergy of any type. Exposing to a pet in the early years of life not only protects the child from pet allergies but also from other common allergies such as ragweed, dust mites and grass. You and your home can be safe and allergy free if you want to keep your cat clean, change its litter box every day and keep it indoors.

3. Helps in sleeping better

According to latest mayo clinic study; it has been found that sleeping with your pets does not worsen your sleep rather you will be able to sleep better. In the study, which consisted of 40 people, 41% of people said that they had a good sleep and only 20% of people complained that their sleep was hampered. Having a purring cat may be very relaxing and conducive to sleep. Cuddling is okay but scientists do not recommend sleeping with your pet in the same bed.


4. Fulfills the need for companionship

Pets can prove to be your greatest friends. The bond between a cat and its owner reinforces companionship even though cats are known to be independent. It can reduce your loneliness. You can play with them in order to freshen up your mood. They look nice and feel even nicer. Cats are extremely entertaining. They can even be your workout buddy. Sometimes, they can help you around the house.


5. Increases sociability

It increases sociability in the sense that you will come in contact with more people who own a cat and hence your friend circle will increase. You will be able to start a conversation with them as a starter and enhance your ability to socialize. You and your friends can organize fun sessions with your cats in a garden or a park and enjoy.

6. Helps in finding love

Studies have revealed that single women are more attracted to men having cats as it shows their caring nature and attitude. The simple reason behind it being cats requires more love, care and attention than any other pet animal.


7. Helps in coping up

Losing a loved one is the most painful thing ever. Pets can help you cope up with the loss. Cats help the most, as revealed by a survey. They act as a social support, despite the fact that it is just an animal. People with cats cope up faster with loss and show less physical symptoms of pain like crying than people without a cat. Sometimes it is easier to talk to something that would not judge you like everyone else, would not respond and just help to vent out your bottled up feelings which make you feel somewhat okay.

8. Saves lives

We have all heard about dogs saving their owners from various mishaps, but there are several instances of cats saving a human’s life. It has been heard of a cat that was able to detect seizures in her epileptic human. Another example is when a cat woke up its master on the smell of leaking gas which could have ended in a catastrophe.


9. Lowers blood pressure

The cat owners have a lower blood pressure, unlike people who do not own cats as cats have a calming effect which helps in lowering the blood pressure. A study was conducted with a room full of cats and their owners. The owners were asked to speak out loud, which increased their blood pressure. Their blood pressure became normal when they started speaking to their cats.

10. Heal bones and muscles

One of the most comforting sounds in the world is that of a cat purring. It means that your cat is happy and comfortable. The purring sound has been associated with the therapeutic healing of bones, muscles, and tendons. Scientists have talked about how the cat noise could help humans.


Hence, we have mentioned some of the benefits of being a cat owner. Cats are a faithful companion and an adorable pet. A cat remembers kindness and returns the favor later. So, if you are thinking of buying a cat, do not hesitate and get one for you soon.
