Diwali is the festival of lights and it represents the removal of darkness and beginning of an enlightening light. Each and every corner of the country is adorned with earthen lamps and fairy lights and sound of crackers can be heard everywhere. Fun and enjoyment are always at their peak during this festival season. Being a little precautious and adopting some safety measures can add a little more sparkle to these days. Even a little bit of carelessness can lead to a big mishap.

1. Clothes

Bursting crackers is one of highlighting features of Diwali. People of all age groups love this tradition. So, in order to avoid any kind of accident related to your clothes getting on fire, always remember to wear cotton clothes and say no to any kind of synthetic material. Also, wear covered shoes to keep your feet safe from any injury.


2. Keep kids under supervision

During Diwali, one of our biggest tensions is our kids’ safety. They play with crackers. It should be kept in mind that kids should be allowed to burst crackers only under adult supervision and they should be given strict guidelines as well as to how to be safe during this time and what to do in case of any mishap.


3. Fire extinguisher

A fire extinguisher is a must have and it is something that should always be kept in close proximity in the place you are bursting crackers. In case of fire breaking, inform the fire brigade immediately.


4. Bursting of crackers in selected spaces

Closed spaces are a big no-no while bursting crackers. These should not be burnt in crowded places either. It can be very dangerous for the passersby. Burst crackers only in open spaces.

We love bursting crackers. But what about discarding them? Do not throw them just like that. Keep them immersed in a bucket of water or use sand to discard the fireworks.

While buying crackers, sometimes we go for cheaper brands. Never commit that mistake. Only go for known brands and legal manufacturers. Also, remember to go through the instructions. The risk of any kind of accident decreases if you use crackers of good quality.

A first aid kit is a must-have during Diwali. It should always be kept handy. It could be of a lot of help in case of small injuries.


8. Safety of pets

We love our pets. Don’t we? They are so adorable. We need to take special care of them during this time. They get frightened with the noise around. So, keep them securely inside the home. You can even try to get them used to the noise by playing similar sounds a few days before Diwali.


9. Emergency situations

Home remedies are of literally no case in case of big mishaps. Do not apply turmeric, ghee or other household products on the burnt areas. Immediately rush to the hospital.


10. Be sensitive

Diwali should be celebrated with intense sensitivity. Try not to convert your fun time into a torturous time for your family and neighbors. Do not burn crackers which cause extreme noise pollution. It can be a very painful experience for senior citizens, babies, and pets.
