PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
ASUS ROG Phone 3 is a third-generation flagship phone in the Republic Of Gamers segment launched by ASUS. It is a robust, performance-oriented gaming phone with stacks of cooling features to improve user experience—the ultrasonic Air Triggers with Dual Partition functionality aids in setting up a console-like gaming environment. The phone comes with ROG UI based on Android 10. It also has both an under-display fingerprint scanner and faces unlock, which is very fast and responsive.
DESIGN AND FORM FACTOR:
It is very much similar to ROG Phone 2 in the looks department. There are no major upgrades in this segment. The backside of the phone gives a good gaming look with an RGB lighting feature that gets activated when you activate the X mode on the phone. The phone has a glass back with 3D gorilla glass protection and curved edges. The frames provided are aluminum frames that have a sleek design. The camera bump is also decent. The phone is 240grams heavy and 9.9mm thick owing to the massive battery it contains.
DISPLAY:
ROG Phone 3 provides a 6.59″ FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and 270Hz Touch Latency, which is fantastic. The display is protected with the tough Corning Gorilla Glass 6, and it’s supported with HDR 10+ and DCI P3 Colour Gamut, which gives a top-notch multimedia experience.
PERFORMANCE:
ASUS ROG Phone 3 comes with the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset. The CPU is clocked at 3.1GHz, and the GPU is the Adreno 650. This is the fastest chipset available for Android phones, which can handle any high-end game with ease. It also has the support of LPDDR 5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, which is a plus for any flagship device. This combination of RAM and storage enhances the read-write speed and the loading of games and other applications on the phone.
ADDITIONAL GAMING FEATURES:
The phone has dual speakers with an excellent base and Air Triggers 3, enhancing the gaming experience. The phone also comes with an Armoury Crate application, enabling the user to tweak the CPU and GPU according to their needs for a better gaming experience. The X mode provided helps in boosting the gameplay. The cooling system with a more massive heat sink and better vapor chambers is superior compared to the one in ROG Phone 2, which aids in proper heat dissipation.
BATTERY AND CHARGING:
The phone has a massive 6000mAH battery with a 30W fast charger provided in the box. For regular usage, the phone can last up to 1.5 days. The charger provided can charge the phone around 50% in 30 minutes, as supported by Quick Charge 4. It also has a slow charge mode feature to improve battery life.
CAMERA:
The phone has a 64MP triple camera set-up with the primary camera having the new sony IMX 686 sensor. It has an aperture of f1.8 where you can shoot 4K videos at 60fps and 8K videos at 30fps, which is fabulous for its price. It also has EIS for stable video recording. It also has impressive AI features like slo-mo and motion tracking. The secondary camera is a 13MP ultra-wide sensor with a 125° field of view and a 5MP macro sensor as the third camera. The primary and secondary are amazing, but the macro isn’t useful as it could have been adjusted in the ultra-wide. A 5MP depth sensor in its place would have been a better deal.
It also provides a 24MP selfie camera with an aperture of f2.0. It also has EIS for stabilization. One can shoot full HD videos at 60fps but no 4K. The selfie camera doesn’t have the slo-mo feature, which could have been there.
The phone has quad microphones and ASUS’s noise cancellation feature, making the video recording experience unforgettable.
The phone also provides night mode, which helps in coming up with decent pictures in low light conditions too.
CONNECTIVITY:
The phone is 5G ready with Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6. It also has NFC and Dual-Band GPS.
EXTRA FEATURES:
The phone has widevine L1 support. Thus, one can stream any OTT content in HD. It also has a notification LED light that is missing in some of today’s phones. The phone also comes with a camera to API support thus, GCAM can be installed. It also comes with dual type-C ports. The second port, which is on the side, is very much helpful for the gamers. It doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack and wireless charging l, a boon for a flagship device.
OPINION AND FINAL VERDICT:
The phone is an absolute beast for the price it is available. The 8GB/128GB variant is priced at ₹49,999, and the 12GB/256GB variant is priced at ₹57,999. The UI of the phone is very clean, with an almost stock-like experience. Although it is a gaming-centric smartphone, it has left no stones unturned. The camera and speaker quality is the flagship level, and for the performance, it is the fastest available android smartphone.
Our rating for the phone would be a 9/10 as it hardly fails to impress in any particular area. All in all, if you’re planning to buy it, you must go ahead and get it. This is a perfect gift for this festive season and is the best investment you will make.
