The Best Careers for Emotional People

April 10, 2018 by Nitin Maheta

Emotional people, or empaths as they’re commonly referred to, have a certain set of traits and attributes that make them more suited for certain career choices more than others. Empaths also tend to get discouraged when they can’t be of service or can’t get a sense of fulfillment from their jobs. Fortunately, there are tons of career choices out there that can make use of your special abilities. Here are a few of them.

Nursing

Emotional people have a tendency to be natural caregivers, and what better career for a natural caregiver than nursing? Depending on your area of work, you’ll be able to create a bond with your patients and sometimes be the only person they can talk to. Empaths have a high sense of what others are feeling and when people are either in physical or emotional distress, which is an essential trait as nurse.

Another great thing that makes nursing a good profession for emotional people is the specialization and advancement opportunities the field offers. Registered nurses looking to advance their careers can easily branch out to family nursing, hospice care or even become nursing advocates. All these career choices can be fulfilling in their own way and will allow you to use your emotional side to help others.

Psychology

Psychology is another great field for emotional people. Just like nurses, psychologists have to deal with health issues. And mental illness can be just as debilitating as physical illness, and needs to be addressed correctly.
Psychologists have to learn how to connect on a deeper level with their clients and have to be great listeners as well. They also need to be able to give actionable advice without being judgemental. They also need to show compassion for their clients since they have to deal with objectionable characters from time to time and still steer them towards the right path. Only a highly attentive and truly empathetic person can be successful as a psychologist.

Life Coach

Life coaching often gets a bad rap, but you’d be surprised at how many lives have been transformed by a proper coach. To be a good life coach, you need to have genuine interest in the well being of others, which is a trait most emotional people tend to share. Life coaches typically work with small groups or individuals, review their life choices and patterns, and try to come up with solutions as well as providing them with encouragement along the way, making it the perfect career for a naturally empathetic person.

Guidance Counselor

The role of guidance counselors is often overlooked, but the effect they can have on a young student’s life can never be understated. As a guidance counselor, you can completely transform the life of a child or young adult by working with them as a mentor. You may be called to help them in their endeavors, career choices, or helping them better meet deadlines and responsibilities.

Emotional people have a tendency to be in tune with the needs of others, which is an essential trait to have if you’re going to be a counselor. You can also choose to work at a local pre or high school or work in an University depending on your preference, making it a very versatile career choice as well.
