World Health Organization released a report claiming that the suicide rate per year in India for the male is 25.8% and for women is 16.4%. This evidently proves that suicide has become one of the global problems of our country. India has been combating an inflated suicide rate. Suicide literally means the termination of one’s life or self-destruction after getting depressed or upset with their living conditions or situations.
There are certain people who have been suffering from suicidal tendencies and have been silently seeking help. It becomes our duty and responsibility to not judge these people and provide our helping hands to save these people from taking this drastic step. However, it is not always possible for normal beings to help such people in need. India has several institutions and associations which have been founded to help such people with suicidal tendencies.

Roshni is an NGO that works as a suicide prevention center based in Hyderabad. It was founded in the year 2006 by a human rights activist named Muhammad Ali. Ali had been associated with some grave issues for more than twenty years like human rights of children, ethnic minorities and women. This association has been involved with many momentous works like protection of women against gender-based violence, safe and quick recovery of missing children and extending psychological help and support to all people suffering from depression and suicide-related thoughts. It is a Suicide Prevention Programme founded in the year 2012 in Goa. It is estimated that the national rate of suicide is 11.4 per lakh population while in Goa it is 15.8%. They have been promoting suicide prevention awareness in Goa on 3rd September, i.e. World Suicide Prevention Day launched The COOJ Suicide Prevention Listening Helpline. They have been associated with significant works like building Stress Buster Clubs in schools and colleges, setting up a helpline, conducting awareness programmes and also celebrating World Suicide Prevention Day annually. Sneha is an NGO based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu offering unconditional support to the depressed, desperate and suicidal.
