Every writer has a different and unique pattern of writing. Every piece written by a writer reflects their own personality and their thinking, their thought process and the research they had done. The writers clearly reflect their intention in the write up they write. But every write-up has a definite pattern or format. 3. Persuasive style:
In the persuasive style of writing the author mainly focuses on convincing his her readers. In this style, the author openly presents his opinions and biases related to various subjects. The core part of the writing comprises of justifications and reasons, so as to convince people on author’s point of view. This style is widely used in a letter of complaint, newspaper opinions and editorial pieces cover letters, advertisements or commercials, affiliate market pitches. An example of the persuasive style of writing can be, following the 2012 Olympic Games hosted in London, the UK Trade and Investment department reported a 9.9 billion boost to the economy. Although it is expensive to host the Olympics, if done right, they can provide real jobs and economic growth. This city should consider placing a bid to host the Olympics. This is persuasive writing because the author has a belief—that “this city should consider placing a bid to host the Olympics”—and is trying to convince others to agree.
Things to keep in mind while writing in persuasive style:
It basically comprises of justifications, reasons, and arguments. The author presents a personal point of view and tries to convince and mould the thought of the process of the readers. It usually tries to persuade people for the action against or in favour of the topic. Thus demanding a clear stand from the readers.
3. Narrative style:
It is the way of telling stories, where the authors present different characters and reveal the story around each one of them. Sometimes the writer can choose one of the characters as the narrator and present the whole story from this character’s perspective. Such stories are often written in first person narration. This style of writing states all the happenings in a very orderly sequence, so as to build up a meaningful story. Novels, short stories, biographies, and poetry are usually written in the narrative style. Anecdotes, biographies and autobiography are generally written in the narrative style to make it more interesting for the readers. For example, “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” said Jaelyn. “You never used to be such a girl!” retorted Orin, pushing open the door. Reluctantly, Jaelyn followed. This is a narrative because it’s telling a story. There are different characters conversing, and a plot is unravelling.
Things to keep in mind while writing narrative style:
The author usually tells a story or any event in a very orderly and synchronized manner. The story revolves around certain characters and they all have their share of dialogues. The story comprises proper beginnings, intervals, suspense, and logical endings. Motivational events, disputes among the characters, followed by violent action at times along with timely solutions.
