Kuala Lumpur is one of the most incredible cities in Malaysia. It’s definitely one of my favourites. With so much to see and do, it’s hard to choose what to opt for – especially when you only have a couple of days to spend here. I’ve tried to narrow it down to my top few faves of things to do when you’re in Kuala Lumpur in the hopes that it helps you to plan your next trip! Let’s take a look at this great list to get the scoop on what to do.
Contents
Kuala Lumpur Petronas Towers
This is a top building in Kuala Lumpur that will never cease to fascinate me and amaze. It is the Petronas Twin Towers and it’s visited by millions of people every year. No visit to this incredible city is going to be complete without a picture of you posing in front of the Twin Towers, so be sure to line up a friend to take a photo or two of you! After you have enjoyed the incredible sightseeing and photo opportunities that this spot allows, be sure to take a look at the park across the road and the shopping centre nearby. Be aware that the sun sets around 7 p.m. in Kuala Lumpur so make sure that you time your visit for the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. If you want to take a look at the view from up high, make sure that you buy a ticket to the Observation Deck on the 86th floor and walk from one tower to the other on the incredible double decker skybridge. Afraid of heights? Be sure to not look down too much! Ticket sales start at 8:30 a.m. and can be quite limited so make sure you are early to buy – or alternatively you can book online.
Bazaars during Ramadan
Ramadan is an incredible time of the year in Malaysia, and although the country is well known for it’s delicious food, the food available during Ramadan can be even better (if you can believe it). During the month of Ramadan, you can taste incredible Malaysian dishes that you’ll find on the many bazaars on the side of the street. Every Bazaar has its own popular dish and you will notice which stores are the best just by looking at the number of people dining there. Try to time your trip to around 3 or 4 p.m. as this is the time the Bazaars will be just setting up, and you will be able to get the freshest food. Don’t forget to use this opportunity to practice your Malay language and to speak to some locals about their beautiful city!
Batu Caves
This is a stunning Hindu temple and shrine which is very well known in the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is situated only around 10 kilometres north of the city, and it is as well known for the incredible giant golden statue as it is for the numerous steps that you have to take to reach the top! The Batu caves can easily be reached by train or bus and you can take this from KL Central. The busiest day to visit the Batu Caves is during the Thaipusam festival, when nearly 1 million people visit the site for religious and festival needs. There are 272 steps in total to reach the top, and they will give you a great workout for all of the wonderful Malaysian food that you have been eating! Enjoy the view – but be careful of the monkeys because they are very used to people and can be quite ostentatious here.
Ni Hao Ma – Petaling Street/China Town
Are you craving some incredible Chinese food? Make sure you don’t go past a visit to China Town! Plus, if you are after anything pork related, you cannot go wrong in Petaling Street. Be sure to brush up your bargaining skills because there are many knock-off brands that you will be able to purchase alongside the tasty foods. If you don’t like being pestered by people, then make sure that you bring your earplugs – people here are trying to make a living and you will get a lot of attention as a tourist. Make sure you bring along your best appetite and an open mind because there is incredible food here around the clock.
