What is Eid-al-Fitr?

Basically Eid-al-Fitr is an important religious holiday which is celebrated by Muslim’s worldwide also the holiday is marked as the end of Ramadan, So Muslims are not permitted to fast on that day. The Holiday has various names like Feast of Breaking The Fast, The Sugar Feast, Bayram(Banjram), The Sweet Festival and The lesser Eid. This the day when Muslim’s around all over the world show a common goal of unity and brotherhood.

History of Eid-al Fitr

Honestly I don’t know much about its history so I have done some research about it and I came to know that according to the Muslim tradition the Eid-al-Fitr was originated or you can say celebrated in the year 610 A.D by the Prophet Muhammad and this all happen because of some interesting discussion between him and the angel Jibril (also Known as Gabriel) while he was meditating in Mount Hira during the month of Ramadan.

How it is celebrated

Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated on the first date of Shawwal which is the tenth month of the Hijra calendar (Islamic Calendar). In the festival. Muslims exchange gifts, greet their neighbors as a mark of unity and brotherhood. The festival not only has religious essence but also carries a social connotation. Hence according to the Islamic tradition, there are two festivals celebrated by Muslims every year and that is Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-zuha. So, Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Delicious foods and drinks are served as the part of the festivity. People decorates their houses and prepare various types of traditional sweets and cuisine to celebrate the festival. The most common and important dish which is served is Meethi Seviyan (Sweet vermicelli).
