With the whole world shifting to the online mode of education, the need for video materials and screen sharing has also increased. There are meeting software and various other video editors to assist you in this process.
But they can be very time-taking and tiring. From presentations to video tutorials, Camtasia by TechSmith can come in handy for quick video and presentation creation.
Like every other developing software, this one also has its share of bugs and fixes. One prevalent issue of crashing has surfaced recently. “Camtasia studio has stopped working” Most users face it when they try rendering their final project files.
Even I came across a similar problem when I started with Camtasia, but I figured my way around it.
For the sake of everyone struggling with the same issue, I am giving a detailed description of how to fix Camtasia crashes when rendering.
Problem
My computer is currently working on Windows 10, and my C:\ drive has 3 GB of available storage. I started working on Camtasia and finished working on my video. When I tried rendering the video, Windows 10 started giving me a low storage alert.
I cleared the C:\ drive as much as possible, and still, Camtasia keeps crashing. After repeated attempts, I found a pattern in this.
● I began with 3 GB of usable storage space in my C:\ drive.
● My final location of saving the rendered file was D:\ drive.
● The video renders 100%, and then, the software crashes.
● Now, my C:\ drive has only 258 MB space free, while earlier it was 3 GB.
This confirms that Camtasia is creating a lot of files in the drive, but is not deleting them while crashing.
The temporary files, large in number or size, just stay in the drive, and my video does not even get delivered.
How do I fix this recurring issue?
Solution
This error can frequently occur if you do not have enough space in the disk where Camtasia creates a temporary data folder. By default, Camtasia is installed on the C:\ drive where it creates all the temporary folders as well. If you have 3 GB free space in the C:\ drive, it will start getting used up to save the temporary production files. By the time you finish editing, you are left with only 258 MB as the temp files have taken 2.7 GB space in the system. Thus, the drive does not have enough space to allow you to render the video successfully, and it crashes.
To fix this, you should move the location of your Camtasia temporary folder to another drive with ample storage space available. Follow the steps here for easy redressal of the issue:
1) Search your system for a drive with ample storage space available.
2) Open Camtasia
3) Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Temporary Storage Folder.
4) Check the folder currently designated as the Temporary Storage folder. It will be in the C:\ drive. Change the destination by browsing for a folder in the D:\ or wherever you have available storage space.
5) Finally, make sure that your account has proper read/write access to the folder, and Camtasia also recognizes the location.
You can also change the default location of the temp folder to any external hard drive. Follow the same process while the hard drive is connected to your system.
Note that you will have to keep this hard drive connected every time you are using Camtasia or are rendering a video.
This way, you can quickly solve the continuous Camtasia crash and also increase the video rendering speed.
This is how I solved my issue of Camtasia crashing while rendering. I hope this quick fix will help you, too, in making your Camtasia experience better.
