The nine days festival comes to an end on the tenth day which is the day of success and victory. According to the mythology, there was a demon whose name was Mahisasura. He had spread terror to all the three worlds. He got a boon of immortality from Lord Shiva according to which no demon, human or god could kill him. He underestimated the feminine energy. To save the three worlds from the hands of terror, Maa Durga took a terrific form and fought a war with him for nine days and killed him on the tenth day. The feminine energy, thus, became enough to vanquish him.
