YouTube navigation can be made even simpler by learning few simple keyboard shortcuts. Watching your favourite videos can now become even simpler by the use of keyboard shortcuts. You don’t need your mouse to control the video now. We have listed for you all the YouTube keyboard shortcuts in the following article.
It is important to know that the YouTube video and window must be active for these shortcuts to work. In case these shortcuts are not working then click on the video to select it. This is necessary because when you navigate between windows, changing tabs in your browser, or comment on the video, the video gets unselected and the shortcuts don’t work.
1) Play and pause a video
To play or pause the video you must press the space bar or the ‘k’ key on your keyboard. To play the video in slow motion press and hold any of these keys.
2) Jump to start of a video
Pressing the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard enables you to jump to the beginning of a video. The home key is also used for the same purpose.
3) Jump to the end of a video or go to the next video
When you press the end key on your keyboard it takes you to the end of the video. While playing a playlist this key takes you to the next video in the playlist.
4) Fast forward or rewind
Pressing the left or right arrow keys on your keyboard allows you to forward or rewind in increments of five seconds. In case you want to jump more than five seconds then press down the Ctrl key and press the respective arrow key to jump forward or backward in a ten second increments.
5) Skip to video sections
On pressing the number keys from 1 to 9 will allow you to jump to that percentage of the video in forward or backward direction. To be clear, 1 jump to 10%, 2 jumps to 20%, 3 jumps to 30% and so on.
6) Make the video full-screen
Press ‘f’ on the keyboard if you wish to turn on the full-screen mode and to exits full-screen mode press Esc.
7) Turn up and down the volume
By pressing the up or down arrow keys you can increase or decrease the volume of the video. Keeping the down arrow key pressed will mute the volume of the video. To unmute the video and turn on the volume you can press ‘m’ on your keyboard.
8) YouTube Lean Back
Use the ‘YouTube Lean Back’ that to navigate through YouTube without the use of mouse.
