Don’t you find it irritating people talking about themselves all the time? Like how they are extraordinary or stand out amongst the rest? They keep blowing their own trumpets and bore people with their stories. People have a general tendency to show off their actions to make themselves look a bit superior to the others. They try to console themselves from such feelings and build an image of high esteem. They keep bragging about themselves around friends and family and sometimes sound very unpleasant.
It’s even interesting to hear stories of people who talk highly about themselves but staying around with these people for a longer period of time is very irritating.
In this article, we are going to discuss the various ways in which you can deal with a show-off or a self-bragging person so that it doesn’t affect you in any way.

Start talking about your opinion
Try to switch the topic and talk about yourself around people who seem to brag a lot about themselves. Try to give them hints that you do not admire much about people who talk highly about themselves. You can reflect on your life and tell them about yourself and distract them from their thoughts. You have to interrupt in between their talks so that they learn that you are losing interest in their talks.
Give them a taste of their own medicine
If you are really pissed off at the person who brags a lot about himself, you must surely give them a taste of their own medicine by boasting about yourself too. Then come to the conclusion after they get bored that boasting isn’t always an ideal conversation to have with people. You can try to make them realize that there are other topics to discuss rather than talking about self.
You can try to keep them from disturbing you by sharing stories about how you do not like the idea of people bragging and share instances of any other person bragging about themselves. It will help them realize that they are not wanted and their topic shouldn’t be discussed. In that way, they will understand their mistakes and stop showing off around you.
It is important to have a stand and let people know if you are having a problem around them. If you do not talk about it, not only will the person seem annoying to you but you will slowly disliking them. It will worsen the situation further for you and the person. If you share experiences about the other person, it means you are indirectly trying to convey your message without hurting their feelings.
Try telling the truth
If you can’t take the behaviour of the person and can’t stand the person for a long time, you can directly tell the truth. If you do not find any other way to deal with the situation indirectly, it is the best way to directly confront the person. If that person is close to you and you don’t want to hurt his feelings, there is no other way but directly talk to him. But, in order to execute the plan, you must choose your words wisely while you tell the person the problem.
Otherwise, he won’t be able to understand your point of view and there will be a major misunderstanding between you two. Confronting your feelings will help you release the burden you have been carrying all the while and you can establish a common understanding.
Do not acknowledge their talks
Ignorance can sometimes be a bliss. The best way to deal with a show off is to never acknowledge their stories and pretend that you haven’t heard to whatever they are speaking. You can directly ignore them on their face and show as if you are not impressed by their talks or narratives. You can act like whatever they are saying is pointless and make them feel like an outcast. So, from next time onward, they will tend to avoid bragging about themselves and try to act a little calm. You cannot always keep thinking about others even when it affects you and you start to lose your temper.
Try to ignore them or simply walk away
The last option that you are left with is to simply walk away and never maintain any contact with them. There is nothing wrong in walking away from people who you are not comfortable spending time with. Everyone may need our compassion and we must possess an ability to understand others. But, it is not possible to maintain a friendship with everyone.
If a person constantly talks about himself, if he never tries to hear you out, on what basis are you trying to maintain a friendship with him? It is better to walk away from such situations. There is nothing wrong there. You can just pass a friendly smile or just come up with an excuse and try to walk away.
You can use sarcasm as a tool
It is never rude to use sarcasm in a light manner. If you are disturbed by the person’s behaviour, try conveying him the message in a sarcastic manner so that you don’t hurt him intentionally. There is a high possibility that he will get a lesson from it and try to rectify his behaviour. Sarcasm can always be used as a fantastic tool to make someone aware of their negative behaviour.

You can never always change a person or the way he behaves but you can always protect yourself from the negative vibes a person implements on you. You have to think about yourself and try to avoid the negative person in your life. You need not to regret your decision if you’re doing it for your own benefit. For that, you can directly or indirectly tell them or simply avoid them if you are left with no option.
