Lying is a common characteristic that is rooted in everyone’s instinct. The conversation regarding this topic can be controversial and argumentative. Consequences of lying fall under the different category which needs to be discussed after a while. But now the main attraction has to be on‘why people lie’. Well, clearly evident from the word ‘lie’ that this is associated with a person’s psychological state. Now, there are some obvious people who are absolutely honest by heart. Even most people tell the truth most of the time except in case of an emergency. But also there are some people who are the frequent liars. Even this sometimes stands out dramatically when their deception is simply disproven, seemingly unimportant and so blatant.
Sometimes telling lie can be drastic for some people in a particular situation as well as it can save people’s life, their feelings which were somehow literally falling apart. Before criticising the person for telling lie and its consequences, it should also be noticed that it might have a valid reason for doing so. Every bad thing in the World does have something good in it. Let’s have a look at the serious reasons that why do people need to lie.
Reasons for Lying:
1. Thinking about Protection: This can be considered as the most common reason used while lying. The thought of Protection comes in two ways- when a person tries to protect them and when they want to protect the others. Now, this is quite controversial that one should not tell lie at any moment. But this genuinely happens when people are afraid of something. For instance, a person is afraid of losing someone and usually for their sake they tell the lie. On contrary, the protection of oneself driven out by the fear of judgment, losing respect among people or also with children when there is a chance that it can be driven out by the fear of punishment.
2. Little White Lies: People more often say this sort of lies in every place to everyone that is hard to be recognized. These lies usually do not cause harm to anyone. For example, to telling someone that an individual is okay when they are not or to compliment someone that they look really good when they do not feel like are basically fall under ‘little lie’ category.
3. Personal Gain: Some people tell lie for an absolute selfish motive. The core reason for doing so is the greed. Greed for winning or achieve something in an inappropriate way. Like someone attempts the action to attain financial gain, sometimes playing a false victim role in someone’s life or making others feel pity for them. This can be disastrous if it gets overlooked all the time.
4. Sometimes Doesn’t Matter: For the real liars, lying frequently to everyone does not bother them at all. This is basically coming from their memory which has been almost destroyed by stress, fictional concepts as well as the other unusual activities. They started thinking that what they are thinking is right except all. This attitude assures them that they are doing just fine!
5. Establishing as Truth: People often assume a lot of unnatural and delusive things and tend to establish it as a truth to everyone. This can be predicted as a major disease for that individual. This somehow comes from the person’s instinct as well. In today’s society, these sorts of people are highly needed to be avoided because sometimes their desperation for establishing the truth may get someone into serious trouble.
6. Don’t Want to Hurt: Another well-known reason for telling lie. People do not want to hurt other’s feelings as well as their thoughts or decisions. In such cases, a particular person often gets confused about what to tell and react and he/she ends up by telling lie. Also, sometimes people are afraid of their truth. They think that the truth might affect any relationship or the professional field and lead them towards rejection. So to avoid such dilemma, the easy option they choose is lying.
7. Satisfy Self Esteem: This is often noticed that the people with low self-esteem always tend to lie. This happens because they experience a sense of inferiority and failure as their abilities and accomplishments fall short of their personal expectations for themselves. This can be conquered if the person is well treated and gets some motivation.
